Charles O. Lucas

Hello Everyone, I have been into computers since I was a kid. I became interested in hacking and computers after watching the movie “War Games.” (1983, This gives you an idea of my age and how long I have been at this..)

I built my first computer when I was 13 years old and managed my high computer lab. I had the Hacker mindset most of my life.

I have been an IT professional for 20 years now, mostly as a Windows (Wintel) Systems Administrator. Sometimes, I work as a network administrator managing Cisco switches, routers, and PIX/ASA. I currently work as an Applications Analyst for a staffing company in the NYC Area.

My original goal when I became an IT Professional was to work my way through college and learn computer programming and game design; after graduating, I wanted to create video games. Things didn’t work out that way.

The truth I learned is that professionals work on and develop their skills and push beyond the everyday routine by just doing things to get the job done. Before I started working as a professional, I had forgotten about my passion for computers, science, engineering, and technology.

In the last two years, I have come back to basics. I am rebuilding Computer/Hackers’ labs, building a new computer room, and working on new notebooks.

I am learning Linux Administration and DevOps engineering and improving and advancing my skills in Windows (Wintel) systems administration and network administration.

What is the difference between a professional and a non-professional? I used to think it was knowledge, but now I think it is love and passion for what you do.

Anyone can develop the skills and knowledge but can do have the passion and love to do what you do. That is the real difference. Over 20 years of experience in Professional IT services and the support industry!
